WECC has provided a very useful tool to gain insights into the region's Reliability and Security risks. The WECC Reliability and Security indicators (Dashboard) provide an overview of system health for stakeholders and the general public. These indicators are updated quarterly with new data and will change as system reliability and security risks change. Each indicator is based on datasets and analyses that are described in detail under each indicator. The Reliability and Security Indicator Dashboard webpage consists of the main landing page, links for each indicator, and a technical appendix. The main landing page shows each Reliability and Security Indicator as a colored hyperlink. Clicking on the hyperlink navigates the user to an expanded view for that indicator.
This dashboard provides an overview of the status of WECC’s Reliability and Security Indicators. The webpage is set up to allow for easy navigation between its various components, which includes the main landing page, a set of accordions for each indicator, and a technical appendix.
WECC’s Reliability and Security Indicators replace the former Reliability and Security Index and represent a first step toward improving how WECC measures the health of the Bulk Power System. It is expected that these indicators will be enhanced over time. They will be reviewed on a regular basis to make improvements wherever possible.
WECC’s Reliability and Security Indicators are updated each quarter to reflect new data received. As new data is validated and analyzed each quarter, the colors, data diagrams, and indicator analysis assessments for each indicator are updated in the dashboard. These quarterly updates occur roughly three weeks prior to each quarterly WECC Board of Directors meeting. The Reliability and Security Indicators are based on several datasets, some of which are available relatively quickly, and one of which is not stable until more than 75 days after the end of each quarter. The indicators cover the same time period for clarity. Otherwise, the dashboard would confusingly display the status of different indicators for different quarters. While the indicators are updated, reviewed, analyzed, and approved as promptly as possible, data timing constraints require that the indicators lag by approximately two quarters.
