In the third quarter of 2022, WREGIS will transition to M-RETS, a new platform with improved user interface and functionality upgrades, including (1) increased security capabilities such as multi-factor authentication (MFA) and single sign-on for multiple WREGIS accounts. (2) an application programming interface (API) suite to provide stakeholders with better data access. (3) continual system improvements to keep pace with the changing environment.
The Western Renewable Energy Generation Information System (WREGIS) issues and tracks Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for generation of renewable-source electricity in the geographic area covered by the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC). The WREGIS also facilitates REC transfers, enables permanent retirement of RECs, assists regulators with the implementation of their renewable energy programs, and brings transparency to REC markets.
How does WREGIS work?
The WREGIS issues one REC for each MWh of renewable generation. WREGIS accounts are similar to bank accounts; Certificates are deposited and managed within these accounts. Certificates can be transferred, retired, or exported to a Compatible Tracking System at the discretion of the certificate holder.
Participation in WREGIS
You may be required by your interconnected utility or state/provincial/voluntary program to open a WREGIS account. Check directly with your counter-parties and/or programs to determine if you are required to register.
WREGIS (Western Renewable Energy Generation Information System)
The WREGIS will offer several training sessions to ensure users have ample opportunity to attend. There will also be updated training materials, including resources for any new software features. WECC will communicate information regarding upcoming training sessions through our usual channels.
