Event initiated by lightning arrestor fault on 345 kV level in Odessa area. The fault occurred on June 4, 2022, at 12:59:25 PM. Preliminary estimates are that a loss of 2,519 MW of thermal and IRR generation was experienced. The 1,666 MW of IRR generation loss was from 14 solar facilities and the other 853 MW was due to thermal generation loss. During the event, System Frequency declined to 59.706 Hz and recovered to 60 Hz in 1 min 20 sec. This event was Categorized as a NERC Cat 3 event (gen loss > 2000 MW). Most disturbing about this disturbance is that greater than two-thirds of the total loss of MWs was attributed to three OEM suppliers of equipment. Additionally, when compared to the 2021, Odessa Event (Odessa 1), greater than two-thirds of the MWs lost were also attributed to only three OEM suppliers.
